Associate Vice President, Chief Compliance & Risk Officer

As Washington State University’s First Chief Compliance and Risk Officer, Sharyl Kammerzell is responsible for  developing the university’s coordinated compliance and risk management program. She also provides strategic and operational leadership across all campuses, colleges, offices, extension centers and units to support a culture of compliance and integrity. Prior to serving as the director of global services in the Office of International Programs, she was the director of legal affairs and special counsel at WSU. She has also served as the division chief and senior assistant attorney general, WSU Division. Before coming to WSU, Kammerzell was senior associate general counsel at the University of Idaho, also serving as its interim general counsel on two occasions. Kammerzell grew up on the Palouse, with grandparents and family who farmed in Whitman County. She attended Mount Holyoke College for her undergraduate degree, traveled to Africa for the Peace Corps and earned her law degree from the University of Colorado.
